2008 Leadership Project at Mount Pleasant High School |
For the first time ever, The College Crusade of Rhode Island
collaborated with Mount Pleasant’s Adopt A Hallway Program. College
Crusade Advisor Dwayne Clement and Mrs. Tavares worked hard to provide
students with the opportunity to bring back school pride.
Students worked together to clean classrooms, pick up trash, and remove
graffiti from school walls and school bathrooms. They showed that there
are students in our school who care about their learning environment.

By participating in this innovative program, students were able to earn
community service hours, restore Mount Pleasant’s original swag, and
serve as leaders of the next generation. We celebrated their efforts by
posting pictures on The College Crusade website and the Providence
School Department website. Thanks to everyone for your participation!
Mount Pleasant Crusaders on: What is school pride?
“What
it means is showing that your school has the potential to be a great
school. It takes everybody to come together and make sure our school is
a safe educational environment to be around.” – Kevin Acevedo, 10th
grade
“To
me, having school pride is being glad to be in school and being
interested in making a difference. I like to see people showing that
they care when the school gets vandalized and they choose to do
something about it. I myself like to show that I care for my school by
helping teachers with things. If something has to be cleaned and I have
time, I help.” – Bryan Delvalle, 12th grade

“Showing
school pride is like expressing yourself in a positive and responsible
way. It shows that you really care about what’s going on in your
community and motivates people to step up, stay focused, and be
successfully positive that they can make a change. The smallest things
you do can make a big impact, whether it’s cleaning school property or
promoting nonviolence. Getting involved has enhanced my school pride,
helped me meet cool people, and given me the chance to work with
others. It’s awesome.” – Jordan Lopez, 12th grade

“School
pride is a good thing to have. It’s good to care about your school and
know that you want your school to be a good environment to be in.
People can show school pride by doing things like cleaning up your
school, cleaning up trash, and making sure your school is a good
environment. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you show school
pride.” – Victor Montanez, 10th grade
“I think people should care about their school because it is good for
schools to be clean. It think that it is good to be in a school
environment where people can learn and feel proud of where they attend
for education.” – Anaisa Aponte, 9th grade
“To
me, having school pride is doing good things for your school. Don’t
litter, don’t be disrespectful to teachers and faculty, and get along
with others. Don’t do bad. Show school pride and do good in school.” –
Genesis Lora, 9th grade
