The College Crusade of Rhode Island Names Todd D. Flaherty, Ed.D., As President & CEO
Highly regarded educator assumes full-time position after serving as interim since last summer
Providence, R.I., August 16, 2010 – The College Crusade of Rhode Island’s Board of Directors announced that interim leader Todd D. Flaherty, Ed.D., of South Kingstown, has been named full-time President & CEO.

Moran, CPA, chair of the board of directors for The College Crusade. “Dr. Flaherty has a long history of being a passionate advocate for equal access and the low-income urban students we serve. He has remarkable vision, an engaging leadership style, and extensive experience in education at the local, state, and national levels. We look forward to working with him to deepen our partnerships with the public and private sectors and to advance educational opportunities for Rhode Island youth.”

Dr. Flaherty joined The College Crusade as part-time Interim President & CEO in August 2009. He has also recently served as Senior Policy Advisor for the National High School Center and Deputy in Residence for the Council of Chief State School Officers, both based in Washington, D.C. In these positions he collaborated with other national policymaking organizations and state education agencies on secondary school redesign, addressing policy development and comprehensive implementation strategies. Between 1995 and 2007, Dr. Flaherty was RI Deputy Commissioner of Education, where he played a vital role in developing and implementing the state’s systemic school reform initiatives, with a special focus on urban districts. He has been president of the RI Superintendents Association and principal of two award-winning high schools – Governor James B. Hunt (Jr.) High School, in North Carolina, and Narragansett High School, in Rhode Island. He has also been a visiting Associate Professor at Brown University focusing on educational leadership in urban and diverse settings. He holds a B.A. from Syracuse University, an M.S. in education from Alfred University, and an Ed.D. from Boston University.
