The College Crusade of Rhode Island Names Todd D. Flaherty to Board of Directors

Former Deputy Commissioner of Education in Rhode Island is currently a senior policy consultant in education at the national level


Providence, R.I., January 28, 2009 – The College Crusade of Rhode Island today announced that Todd D. Flaherty, Ed.D, a resident of Wakefield, R.I., has joined the organization’s board of directors.

Dr. Flaherty is Senior Policy Consultant for the National High School Center, in Washington, D.C., and Deputy in Residence for the Council of Chief State School Officers, also based in Washington, D.C. In his current roles, he collaborates with other national policy-making organizations and state education agencies on secondary school redesign, addressing policy development and comprehensive implementation strategies.

Previously, Dr. Flaherty served for 12 years as Deputy Commissioner of Education in Rhode Island, where he played a vital role in implementing the state’s systemic school reform initiatives. In addition, Dr. Flaherty was president of the Rhode Island Superintendents Association and principal of two award-winning high schools: Governor James B. Hunt (Jr.) High School, in North Carolina, and Narragansett High School, in Rhode Island. He also served as a visiting Associate Professor at Brown University focusing on educational leadership in urban and diverse settings. He holds a B.A. from Syracuse University and an Ed.D. from Boston University.
