High School Crusade Advisor |
Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTIONS: Locate Crusaders in grades 6-12 attending public schools within the seven urban target districts. Provide referrals and direct services to high school Crusaders on matters dealing with academic, college, career awareness, financial aid and social success. Link Crusaders to existing support systems and in-house programs. Maintain personal contact with Crusaders, their families and school officials. Make home visits. Act as an advocate and liaison between the student, school and the Children's Crusade.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Using the data provided by IT, assess, identify and recruit Crusaders to programs within the school, community and Crusade.
- Provide the necessary follow up to ensure successful participation.Provide direct vocational, career and academic advice to Crusaders seeking post-secondary education.
- Assist students in clarifying education objectives, identifying financial aid resources and other appropriate support services as needed.
- Recruit, identify and screen Crusaders suitable for high school advisory program services.
- Form and maintain professional relationships with Crusaders, school administrators, community agencies and other service providers.
- Connect Crusaders with each other and build Crusader identity as a resource.
- Provide workshops on college/career awareness and life-skills.
- Assist with the planning & implementation of all transitional activities.
- Support and assist with all academic, cultural and parental Crusade program activities.
- Provide rosters, Crusader personal information updates (social security number, address, and phone number) to IT department.
- Assist with the collection of all required forms.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports
- Participate in professional development and program meetings.
- Work as a productive member of an integrated Crusade program service delivery team.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in education, human services or related field. Transportation: Must have own reliable transportation, valid driver's license and proof of insurance. Skills/Experience: 2-3 years experience in direct services to adolescents. Knowledge of public education systems, community resources and higher education preferred. High energy level, attention to detail, time management, ability to handle multiple tasks and strong interpersonal skills a must. Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and Access required. Must be able to work independently and accept supervision from Field Coordinator and High School Program Manager. Special: Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule, including evening hours. Bilingual a plus (Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verde, Hmong, Cambodian).
