What Will You Be When You Grow Up?

Our Career Day on October 3 drew 122 middle school Crusaders to New England Institute of Technology. They learned all about what it’s like to work in medicine, engineering, landscape design, banking, toy design, and other interesting professions.

Many thanks to all our speakers, who volunteered their own time on a Saturday morning to come and talk with Crusaders about their careers: Thomas Marsocci, Jr., Swift Wind Turbine; Dr. Michael I. Nissensohn, MD, Gastroenterologist; Matt Vitale, Pharmacist, Walgreens; Arthur J. Eddy, Landscape Designer; Bahjat Y. Shariff, Operating Partner, Panera Bread; Randy F. Sacilotto, Navigant Bank; Ham Woodhouse, Designer, Hasbro; Jason Gold, PE, Environmental Engineer; Mark Chute, Goodwill Industries;and Carl Papino, US Post Office.

Environmental engineer Jason Gold, from SGE/Northeast Engineers & Consultants in Middletown, showed Crusaders how to use the tools of his trade, including bailers for testing water and anemometers for measuring wind speed.

Crusaders learned about plant design and explored architectural drawings and renderings by landscape designer Arthur Eddy, from the firm of Gates, Leighton & Associates, in East Providence.

Bahjat Shariff from Panera Bread talked with Crusaders about the importance of working hard, developing a strong character, and deciding what they stand for as individuals.
